The Thinking Docks are two boardwalks, where the teens sometimes go to sit and reflect on their problems, usually at sunset. In the reboot, the water that surrounds the thinking docks is missing, leaving a large amount of space from the docks to the ground due to climate change.

Biography[]

In "Episode Two: Election Blu-Galoo", Joan went down to the thinking docks to reflect on how she betrayed Abe in the school election. Abe went down to the thinking dock next to her to tell her how mad he was at her. Abe stepped on a nail at the thinking docks and also fell overboard and landed in the water there.

In "Litter Kills: Litterally", JFK went down to the thinking docks to cry about the death of Ponce de León. Abe went down there to comfort him and assure him that everything was going to be okay. Knowing Ponce, he would have taken back all of the mean stuff he said to him before he died. He also told JFK that if Ponce were alive, he'd be against littering and encouraged him to go back to the schoolyard to clean up all the trash on the ground.

In "Makeover Makeover Makeover: the Makeover Episode", Joan went to the thinking docks to cry about how the prom was ruined for her, since Abe was going with Cleo instead of her. Abe went to the thinking docks with her to help her get a date with someone else, thinking that's what she wanted.

In "Let's Try This Again", Abe offended everybody in the Inclusivity Committee with his problematic language and Joan told him to get out. Feeling bad, Abe went down to the old thinking docks for the first time in 20 years and sat there to reflect on the world today. There, he saw Confucius sitting next to him, saying that he usually goes down to the thinking docks to become more like the real Confucius. Abe also noticed how the water around the thinking docks was completely gone and now the former lake was just a giant pit in the ground. Confucius said this was because of global warming. Confucius later told Abe that the best way out of his situation was just to apologize ... in a flashy overproduced apology video on FlipFlop.

Trivia[]

  • The thinking docks are a reference to Dawson's Creek and how characters from the show would regularly go down to the lake and have deep conversations about their feelings and emotions, usually at the docks, on a boat, or standing by the lakeside.
  • Gandhi and Cleo are the only main characters in Season 1 to have never been seen at Thinking Docks.
  • In "Sexy-Ed", Abe sat down and had a heart-to-heart with Joan down at a lake, which is supposedly the new substitute for the thinking docks.
